October 2021 – at Philadelphia Cricket Club

Final score
Philadelphia Cricket Club Grounds

Montclair Cricket Club made the trip down to the beautiful Philadelphia Cricket Club to continue our annual series. Philadelphia won the toss and opted to field first.

Some custom rules were adopted for the game like 40 run retirement rule per batter and out if ball is hit into any buildings or tennis courts

MCC scored 188 runs in the 30 overs provided, a respectable mark during the overcast and sometimes drizzling day.

PCC started their innings strong, slowed down, but continued to score runs. They scored 192 runs with 2 overs to spare.

Afterwards, sandwiches and beer were shared between all the players.

Philadelphia now leads the series 3 to 1.

  • Pittser Field at Montclair State University

Cricket at Pittser was back!

Half of MCC played under captain B. and the other half played under captain M. The T20 game was battled well on the nice pitch of Pittser Field.

There were adapted rules to increase competition: 20 runs max per player, wrap-around batting order, negative 8 runs per wicket, and out if ball hit out of the stadium.

Team M batted first and put up a respectable amount of runs, but lost too many wickets. Without much pressure for Team B to contend with, they slowly chased the run total without losing the costly wickets.

The after match catch-up was at De Novo European Pub and the Club was able to make a generous donation to MSU’s Red Hawk Open.

December 2017 – Montclair Boxing Day Cricket Game

  • December 26th, 3-5pm
  • Sports Domain Academy in Clifton at 1075 Route 46 East
  • Followed by drinks and commentary at Egan’s.

We are all set for the Montclair Cricket Club’s usual Boxing Day classic, the day after Xmas Day. This year we will play again at the Sports Domain Academy in Clifton at 1075 Route 46 East. It is a great venue for the game with excellent facilities.

Game will be 3.00pm-5.00pm. Please arrive 2.45pm with $20 (this is the per player fee SDA charges for the facility). The game is open to all levels and ages, including beginners. Montclair, Hoboken and Manhattan-based players equally welcome.

We will configure teams on site and look to play 20 overs each way with a realistic but safe soft ball that reproduces the seam movement and bounce of a leather cricket ball.

Drinks and post-match analysis at Egan’s. We may even get to see some of England vs Australia in the Ashes – if the series is still alive by then!

Please contact Brian Cattell if you plan on playing. New players, please use the Contact Us form on this site.

August 2013 – Hoboken Triumphs – Montclair Loses in Last Ball Drama

Hoboken beats Montclair in last ball drama at Pittser Oval on August 11th. It came down to the MCC needing a 6 off the last ball after a tremendous last over effort, but alas, we fell short. A superb effort from both teams….we will live to fight another day.

December 2010 – The “Boxing Day Classic”, now contested for the “Egan’s Trophy”

With a blizzard outside, 20 brave souls and their loyal families made it out for a tight contest under the lights at Clifton. There were some fine performances, especially at the bar afterwards. The highlights are captured below. A huge thanks to Chris Egan for sponsoring the event, Ashley from the Soccer Domain for his loan of the venue and to all the players for contributing to this new tradition in the New Jersey sporting calendar….!

May 2010 – Outdoor 20-20

Where – Anderson Park, Montclair

On a beautiful Spring day in picturesque Anderson Park, teams from Montclair and Hoboken combined for a thrilling affair of ball on willow. Our first ever outdoor game could not have been closer or more entertaining, going right to the last ball when a four was needed but the boundary could not be broken. Plenty of players batted sumptuously with sixes aplenty and the bowling was of the highest order. We enjoyed a few champagne moment catches and even had our first “streaker”, fully dressed fortunately, replete with camera and a story for a deck, a rocking chair and a large cigar.

The photos tell the story….we will do it all again in July.

The boundary walk…trying to look cool

Down the track for 6 over long off…sweet!

In 30 years they will be asking ‘where are they now?’

Who ate all the pies??!

Serenity….

The crucial toss – Montclair to bat
